Introducing, Peppermint Patty!

Peppermint Patty's birthday may not be until October but I just couldn't wait that long to share this recipe for Peppermint Patty's Prune Whip. I found it in the Peanuts Cook Book with recipes by June Dutton and cartoons by Charles M. Schulz. Why today? Because, today is the day Peppermint Patty made her Peanut's debut!!!

Christopher Robin Milne

Shame on me, I missed Christopher Robin's birthday yesterday. Perhaps these recipes will sustain you. They were gathered from The Pooh Cook Book by Virginia H. Ellison; illustrated by Ernest H. Shepard.
Tomorrow is National Sponge Cake Day! As for me, I'm off to the boat races! Enjoy!
1. Winnie the Pooh Day (previous post with recipes:)

  1. We were just talking about Christopher Robin yesterday. We were teasing our oldest that he loved Winnie the pooh as a toddler. He loved Christopher Robin because his that is his middle name and that yellow was his favorite color because of Pooh. Right now he's in denial..But parents remember stuff like that LOL!

Have fun at the races! I've never been to a boat race before.

  2. Prunes and peppermint! So very interesting. I just made peppermint lava cakes (williams sonoma kit) and served it with mint chocolate chip ice cream. Delicious! To some it may be too much mint, but I LOVE mint. Thanks so much Louise!

  3. Good to know about peppermint patty :)

  4. I love Winnie the Pooh !
Have fun at the boat races !

  5. My mother made prune whip until her recipe became obsolete for 2 reasons:

First, Gerber's stopped making baby food prune puree, which was the key ingredient. (Yes, you can soak and puree whole prunes, but when they had pure prune puree it was instant!)

Second, she got a real refrigerator. The ancient one she had when I was very small didn't have a true freezer, so prune whip came out a perfect soft-serve texture. With a real freezer, it had ice crystals.

So modern times whipped the prune whip.

  6. Hmm. I like prunes, and I like light, creamy desserts, but I seem to have something of a mental block about prune whip. Maybe it's just the name...

  7. Winnie the Pooh, the first stuffed toy I bought when I moved to the U.S. ...and belated happy birthday to Christopher robin!

  8. As you may know, the PEANUTS cookbook is one of my favorites! I don't have a Winnie The Pooh cookbook, but now you've got me thinking I should hunt one down!

  9. They sure do Sher! There's no denying Winnie the Pooh or Christopher Robin. We've all been there. Some of us still are:) I never made the boat race. Next year, I may try to get extra give-away tickets!

I too LOVE mint Kasha, Right now Peppermint Lava Cake is sound mighty refreshing. Thanks for dropping by...

Hi Selba, Charlie Brown is still my fave:)

    Sidney! Me too Pooh:)

What an interesting prespective, Mae, The evolution of Prune Whip. Very cool...

Me to Adele. I just don't know why. I'll just blame it on my childhood LOL

That is so sweet Veron. Do you still have him? He was the first stuffed toy I bought for my grandchildren too!!!

I was indeed thinking of you T.W. when I posted Peppermint Patty. The Pooh Cook Book by Virginia H. Ellison is a tad bit more grown-upish:)

  10. two of my favorite cookbooks. I have them both. Great recipes in them, and you have one of the best food blogs!

  11. I notice you post a recipie from the Pooh Cook book. I used to cook from this as a kid and loved it. My favorite recipie (cooked for my grandma every christmas for years) was the peppermint creams. I would be incredibly grateful if you could send me the details of this recipie. My own kids want to make peppermint creams to sell at the local farmer's market to raise money for charity and I would love to use the pooh recipie.
    Thanks so much

  12. Hi Jake,
Thank you so much for dropping by...I'm so sorry to say, that unfortunately, that book is amongst the missing:( I have a habit of letting people borrow my books and it seems, sometimes, they forget to return them.

I will do some investigating but, for the time being, I'm afraid, I just don't know where it is...

Through this wide opened gate,
none came too early,
none returned too late.

Thanks for dropping in...Louise
