Good morning everyone. Let me be the first to wish you a Happy Friendship Day:)
I hope you don't mind, but I need to ramble a bit today. I've been spending the mornings sipping my coffee under the new gazebo I bought while the kids were here. Won't you join me? I'm not usually hungry in the morning but if you like, I brought along, what I believe, is the perfect cake for such an occasion, Sock-It-To-Me-Cake.

And what would a Kaffeeklatsch be without any flowers? I chose Gladiolus for today since they are one of the birthday flowers associated with the month of August.

Let's meander through the garden while we chat. There are so many gifts from nature I would like to share with you. Remember those Nasturtiums that were just about peeking over the edge of the planter in May? It was "iffy" for a while there but... (Nasturtiums don't transplant well)

I asked Marion to join us. I persuaded her to pose under the sunflowers:)
Unlike Marion, the Sunflowers seem to grow by the second:)

I invited a few other friends to join us. Can you see them? There's "Filly" the groundhog hiding under the rainbow pinwheel in the back. "Chippy" is under the pink one in the front and of course "hummer" is perching guard:) I was actually taking a picture of the hummingbird here. It wasn't until I downloaded the picture that I noticed the other two guests. And that was only because the kids pointed them out to me when I showed them on the computer:)

Thank you for sharing Friendship Day with me. It is sometimes difficult for me to acknowledge the online world of "invisible friends." I do hope you all realize how often I think about you and how much I appreciate your words. Now, won't you take a bouquet of Phlox before you go?

Dear friend, I enjoyed reading this so much, a light in the night, when I happen to be reading. I should put this on my fridge and read it, each morning.
ReplyDeleteI came by to tell you that I think coffee added to my chocolate cookies is a wonderful suggestion, one which I hope to try when I make them again. Thanks for that thought and those written here.r
Happy Friendship Day!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to join you under your gazebo, Louise! After all, I do consider you a friend...perfect way to celebrate Friendship Day! (And pass me the Sock It To Me cake!) We can sit and look at your lovely garden and chat. Such fun!

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet holiday!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tour of your garden, Louise! I could visit for hours! Happy Friendship Day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friendship Day! So wonderful to share so much with friends today and everyday--in cyberspace and in real time. Great holiday. Loved the trip through your garden. Almost like being there :-)
ReplyDeleteHi to Marion!
Think, think... Someone here in podunk makes a mean sockittome cake. Oh yeah! A former co-worker's wife. Whew. Glad I figured that out.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers. I've always loved gazebos. I think it's time to ask for one -- again.
Beautiful flowers! Happy friendship day!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Rosa

ReplyDeleteA new gazebo sounds pretty nice. Ever since we had the patio covered we spend so much tome on it...quite relaxing.
Hi Louise,
ReplyDeleteMissed your Friendship Day, but I'm here I am today. Wishing you a Fantastic Frienship Week. Great post; love coming here.
Rita
What a FUN post! I haven't thought about sock-it-to-me cake since the seventies. That's what I like about reading your posts, they are always like cozy walks down memory lane. Happy Friendship Day to you!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friendship day a little late! Love the beautiful flowers!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteMy kids would love the frog & ladybug snacks. YUM.
ReplyDeleteLouise, Happy Belated Friendship Day!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this nice post and I enjoyed all the pictures :-)
Hope you are having a great week!
oh those flowers are just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friendship Day Louise! Your flowers are gorgeous and especially your sunflowers! I tried to grow them for years and they will never get past a foot or two before dying. Is there a secret?
ReplyDeleteLovely post dear Louise, I dont see before, I whish you a happy belated friendship day!! you are one of my lovely friends, LOL, gloria
ReplyDeleteIm a little busy because Mom and Dad are here a little sick and I take care them!
It is delightful to know you enjoyed this post, Chaya. To think you would even consider displaying it on your fridge warms my heart:) Thank you. I'm also thrilled to know you are willing to experiment with your tasty looking chocolate cookies. Please let me know how it works out.
ReplyDeleteThanks Yummy!
And I would love to have you Barbara. I'm getting so good at working the gas grill, we could even have a barbecue and chat away! Hope you're having fun on your Island vacation. "See" you soon:)
I'm not sure why they grew so big this year, Peachie. I guess I fed them lots of sunflower goodies!!! They are just beginning to nod their heads. I'm supposing they are full now, lol...
Thanks, Veron. It did take a bit of coaxing to get Marion to pose with the sunflower. She is such a little bitty thing only measuring just under 5 feet. The last time I measured the tallest sunflower, it was a towering 10-1/2 feet!!! I hear the sunflowers are the talk of the neighborhood, lol...
So glad you enjoyed the post, Glenda. If you follow the link, I think I included a recipe for the cake. I'd also love to compare if you find your "granny's" recipe.
I never tire of posting for Friendship Day, duckie. It's such a "sweet" holiday:)
Happy Friendship Day to you T.W. You are welcome to linger anytime. I have new gazebo furniture on order!!!
Marion says HI Back, Janet. She's a huge fan of chocolate! Pretty cool at 91!
ReplyDeleteI Really should bake up that Sock-it-to-me-cake again, Chan. It was sooooo gooood. It jogged your memory didn't it, lol...I started my gazebo fund last year when I first planted the mound. I just knew a gazebo was in store. It's amazing how fast loose change adds up when determination is the fuel:) Assembling it, well you don't want to see the pictures of that. Remember, Marion is "little."
Happy Friendship Day to you to Rosa. And Happy Blogoversary too!!! Sending flowers your way:)
I love love love the new gazebo, Tina! Morning coffee and evening wine are the best of times!!!
Thank you, Rita. It has been a very firendly week around here. Now, I remember why:)
hi louise, it's so nice of you sharing this post with us. I'm late again for friendship day but just reminded that i treasure our friendship just as much as you treasure us. I almost missed the chippy on the photo there too!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to be reminded of those long lost days of Goldie Hawn and Sock-it-to-me-Cake isn't it Pattie? I must bake it again, soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tiffanee!
Thank you, duckie. Now I think of it, it's been a GREAT week!!!
So would my grandchildren, Pam.
Glad you enjoyed it Juliana. It was fun to share!
They are growing by the minute, Simply Life.
I've never met a fickle sunflower Reeni. I've lost a few seedlings through the years but now when I set them out, I cover them. Plastic beverage bottles work really well as do plastic drinking cups. This year, I'm going to have to attribute their "Jack in the Beanstalk" height to lots of fertilizer (manure actually) and plenty of water!!! I'm trying to save seeds. If it works, I'll be happy to send you some for next year!!!
Thank you sweet Gloria. I do hope your mom and dad are feeling better. Wish them a Happy Friendship Day for us:)
Oh thank you for such sweet words Lena. Yes, Chippy, likes to hide. Yesterday I found him sneaking a cherry tomato under the scented geranium. I only wish I had my camera. It was hilarious. The tomato was nearly bigger than him!
Belated happy friendship day. I am so far behind. What a fun read and I loved the little frogs and toads. So cute!
ReplyDeleteNot to worry, LouAnn I've come to the conclusion I will never catch up!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's really a nice and useful piece of info. I am glad that you shared this useful information with us. Please keep us up to date like this. Thank you for sharing.
